Day 3
Triage (2 hrs). List all exam topics. Separate into: (A) definitely on exam + I don't know it, (B) probably on exam, (C) maybe. Ignore C entirely. Focus on A.
Category A topics (study these)
Study block 1 (2–3 hrs). Category A topics only. Active recall — don't just reread. Make flashcards, practice problems, or teach it to someone.
-
Day 2
Morning: Category A continued + start B (3 hrs). Finish anything from Day 3. Move to B topics.
Category B topics covered
Afternoon: Practice test (timed, 2 hrs). Take a full practice exam or do end-of-chapter problems. Grade ruthlessly.
Biggest gaps from practice
Evening: Office hours or tutoring. Bring your specific wrong answers. Get help on exactly those.
-
Day 1
Morning: Final gap review (1.5 hrs). Only study what you got wrong on the practice test. Make a one-page summary.
Afternoon: Light review only. Read your one-page summary twice. Then stop.
Evening: Prep + sleep.
Alarm set (+ backup alarm)
Exam location + room confirmed
Materials packed (calculator, pencils, ID, water)
7+ hours sleep — non-negotiable
Emergency rule: If you have less than 3 days, email your professor NOW. Explain the situation honestly. Ask if there's any extension, alternative, or extra credit. The worst they can say is no.
Step 1: Email the Professor (Send Within 24 Hours)

[Your Name] — Late [Assignment Name] — Request to Submit
Dear Professor ____________,
I'm writing to let you know that I did not submit [assignment name] by the deadline. I take responsibility for this, and I want to be transparent about what happened.
[Choose one or write your own]:
• I fell behind on the material and underestimated how long this would take.
• I've been struggling with managing my workload this semester.
• I had a difficult week and didn't plan my time effectively.
I have [completed / mostly completed / started] the assignment and would like to submit it for partial or full credit if possible. I understand if there is a late penalty.
I'm also taking steps to prevent this from happening again, including [using a weekly planner / going to office hours / working with a tutor].
Thank you for your time.

[Student ID if applicable]
Step 2: Action Plan (Complete Within 48 Hours)
Submit the assignment, even if late — partial credit > zero
Check syllabus for late policy (how much can you still earn?)
Calculate: what grade do you need on remaining work to pass?
Add ALL remaining deadlines to your calendar right now
Set up a weekly planning session (use Template 1)
Professor's response / decision
Next assignment due in this class
My plan to submit it on time
Remember: Professors deal with missed deadlines constantly. Most will respect honesty and a clear plan. What they don't respect is silence or excuses. Take ownership, submit what you have, and move forward.
Student Commitments
I agree to the following for the next _____ weeks:
Attend all classes (or contact professor in advance if unable)
Complete the Weekly Planning Sheet every Sunday
Submit all assignments on time or contact the professor before the deadline
Attend weekly parent check-in (15 min, same time each week)

Additional:
Parent Commitments
I agree to the following for the same period:
Limit check-ins to the agreed weekly call (no surprise texts about school)
Lead with questions, not lectures, during check-ins
Celebrate effort and progress, not just grades
Continue financial/logistical support as agreed below

If Things Aren't Working
We agree that if commitments aren't being met after _____ weeks:
We will (adjust the plan / seek additional help / discuss alternatives)
This is not a punishment framework. It's a "let's be honest about what's working and adjust" framework.
